JID

Destin Choice Route, known professionally as JID, is widely regarded as one of the most elite and technically gifted lyricists of his generation. Hailing from East Atlanta, Georgia, JID has carved out a unique space in modern hip-hop by combining hyper-speed delivery, erratic flow switches, and sharp, conceptual storytelling. Often compared to rap purist icons for his sheer mic presence, he bridges the gap between classic hip-hop showmanship and the heavy, bass-driven energy of modern Southern trap.

The Spillage Village Beginnings & Dreamville Breakout

Before stepping into the solo spotlight, JID foundationalized his career as a core member of the musical collective Spillage Village, which he co-founded in the early 2010s alongside EarthGang, Hollywood JB, and JordxnBryant. His undeniable wordplay and distinct, high-pitched vocal cadence caught the attention of J. Cole, leading to JID signing with Dreamville Records and Interscope in 2017.
That same year, he dropped his official studio debut, The Never Story, which immediately established him as a critical darling. He followed this success in 2018 with DiCaprio 2, a cinematic, concept-heavy homage to Leonardo DiCaprio’s filmography that showcased his versatility, breeding underground anthems like "151 Rum" and "Off Deez."

Mainstream Ascension: The Forever Story

JID reached a massive global audience in 2021 through his collaboration with pop-rock band Imagine Dragons on the chart-topping smash hit "Enemy" for the animated series Arcane. This crossover success set the stage for his magnum opus, 2022's The Forever Story. Acting as a spiritual sequel to his debut, the album was a deeply autobiographical masterwork that dissected family dynamics, systemic hurdles, and his own upbringing in Atlanta. Propelled by the multi-platinum, viral success of the single "Surround Sound" (featuring 21 Savage and Baby Tate), the album solidified JID not just as a cult favorite technician, but as a bonafide commercial powerhouse capable of carrying a blockbuster record.

Current Era: God Does Like Ugly

In August 2025, JID pushed his artistic boundaries even further with his fourth studio album, God Does Like Ugly. Inspired by a striking piece of perspective shared by his late grandmother, the album took a grittier, more chaotic approach than his previous records, immersing listeners in an atmospheric, post-apocalyptic vision of a fractured world.
Executive produced by his longtime collaborator Christo and featuring an elite tier of guests ranging from the Clipse and Vince Staples to Ciara and Thundercat, the project earned widespread critical acclaim, cracked the top 15 of the Billboard 200, and garnered a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album. Backed by his sweeping "God Does Like World Tours," JID continues to cement his legacy as a fierce, unpredictable force at the absolute vanguard of hip-hop.
