The Artist & The Sound
Micah Davis, professionally known as Masego (pronounced mah-SAY-go), is a Jamaican-American multi-instrumentalist, singer, and producer. He is widely credited with pioneering his own self-styled genre, "TrapHouseJazz"—an effortless, breezy fusion of classic jazz instrumentation, house music rhythms, and crisp hip-hop drum patterns.

Known for his witty lyricism, seductive vocals, and virtuoso saxophone play, Masego’s music feels both improvisational and highly polished. On stage, he is famous for building complete, lush compositions from scratch using a loop pedal in front of live audiences.
Early Life and "Blessings"

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, to a Jamaican father and an African-American mother, Davis grew up in a nomadic military family. Both of his parents were pastors, and his childhood was steeped in the gospel and soul music of the church. The family eventually settled in Newport News, Virginia, a region rich with musical innovators like Pharrell Williams and Timbaland.

Entirely self-taught, Davis learned to play the drums, piano, and saxophone without formal training. While in high school, he adopted the stage name Masego, which is a Tswana translation of his church name meaning "blessings". After briefly attending Old Dominion University in Virginia, he left to pursue his music career full-time.

Rise to Prominence & "Tadow"
Masego first caught the internet's attention with his collaborative 2015 project, The Pink Polo EP, alongside electronic producer Medasin.
His global breakthrough arrived in 2017 with "Tadow," an eight-minute, fully improvised jam session recorded in a single take with French multi-instrumentalist FKJ. The track’s mesmerizing, saxophone-led loop went viral, accumulating hundreds of millions of views on YouTube and earning RIAA Platinum certification.

Major Projects
* Lady Lady (2018): Masego's debut studio album solidified his standing in the contemporary R&B landscape. Featuring tracks like the titular "Lady Lady" and the studio version of "Tadow," the record showcased his ability to craft rich, romantic conceptual worlds.

* Studying Abroad (2020): Inspired by his travels and global sounds, this EP (and its 2021 Extended Stay deluxe version) leaned heavily into dancehall, Afrobeats, and progressive R&B. It spawned the hit "Mystery Lady" (featuring Don Toliver) and earned Masego his first Grammy nomination for Best Progressive R&B Album.

* Masego (2023): His self-titled sophomore album was praised by critics as his most mature and introspective project to date. Carrying no features, the album found Masego exploring the complexities of fame, identity, and failed relationships through a highly cohesive blend of R&B, amapiano, and live instrumentation.

Recent Activity (2025–2026)
Following a brief release hiatus, Masego returned with a string of groove-heavy, live-instrument-focused singles: "I Win," "Unhinged," and "Spin The Block".
